Another landmark moment for the ‘Ikber Magħna’ project – A MoU between Optimist Club of Malta and the Valletta Local Council

The ‘Ikber Magħna’ project has reached another landmark moment in its relatively short history. A Memorandum of Understanding between Optimist Club of Malta President, Mr Reuben M Buttigieg and Valletta Local Council Mayor, Mr Olaf McKay was signed on Wednesday 16th October 2024. Ms. Marouska Bonnici, from the Foundation for Social Welfare Services, was also present for the signing.

This MOU builds on the existing collaboration with the FSWS which was established last year, wherein a new centre for the ‘Ikber Maghna’ project for the children of Valletta was inaugurated. The collaboration with FSWS will continue, however, going forward, ‘Ikber Magħna’ sessions will take place at the Valletta Local Council premises rather than the FSWS.

In his address, Mr. Reuben M Buttigieg, President of the Optimist Club of Malta explained how the ultimate goal of the ‘Ikber Magħna’ project is to help children with their homework and studies after school hours. Through this project, children between the ages of 7 and 10 from the locality of Valletta can attend, and there they will find the necessary help.

The venue allocated for this project is equipped with the necessary tools which can be used by the children while doing their homework and study. Educational extra-curriculum activities and a number of talks are also an integral part of the project, encouraging these youngsters to flourish beyond school hours and provide them with valuable character-building experiences, which will help them well into the future.

These sessions will be held every Monday and Thursday between 15.15 and 17.15 at the Valletta Local Council and is aimed at children from the same locality, a project where they will find the necessary assistance to continue learning, even after school hours.
